Find your lost super
Many people don’t tell their superannuation fund when they move house or change name. That's one of the main reasons superannuation funds become lost.
Also, people change jobs and may start up another superannuation fund. It then becomes harder to keep track of your super.
How can I find my lost super?
- Contact your former employers and see if they can advise you of the fund they used for making contributions
- If your former employers can tell you, contact that fund or funds and see how much super you have with them
- Also, check the register of lost super savings with the ATO
You may have super from another fund which is registered as lost super with the ATO. It is worth checking whether you have more super with the ATO and the service is free:
- Visit the ATO website, www.ato.gov.au/super, then go to the SuperSeeker icon on the right side of the screen, scroll down and then click on Begin SuperSeeker search. You will need to provide your tax file number, name and date of birth, or
- give the ATO a call on 13 28 65 and follow the prompts to request a search of the lost super register. Have your tax file number handy.
If a possible match has been found between your TFN and details on the Lost Members Register, you will be given the name and contact details for the super fund/s that reported the account as lost. You will then need to contact the fund/s.
If a possible match has been found between your TFN and superannuation records held by the ATO, you will be asked to contact the ATO directly.
