Marriage and divorce
On getting married
Here are some things about super you need to think about:
- Consider whether you wish to make (or change) a nomination as to whom you wish your superannuation or pension benefit to be paid if you die. For more information, see Death and disablement.
- Think about whether your current insurance cover is sufficient.
- If you have changed your name, remember to advise First State Super. Send a certified* copy of your Certificate of Marriage to: First State Super, PO Box 1229 Wollongong NSW 2500. Include your full previous name, your full married name, your current address, and your membership number.
*Certified means that you will need to have a copy of your Certificate of Marriage signed by a solicitor or Justice of the Peace as a true copy of the original.
Divorce and super
Federal legislation now allows legally married couples to split their superannuation (including pension benefits) on marriage breakdown.
- Your spouse can request information about your super from the fund.
