Rating of First State Super as a super fund

Your superannuation is a valuable investment. Ratings companies rate superannuation funds so that you can see how your fund stacks up. These companies examine things such as investment performance, fees, services, communications, administration, and insurance.

Awards 

 Money magazine Best of the Best 2012 Lowest-Cost Super Fund and Lowest-Cost Pension Fund
This award covers funds with the lowest annual fees that receive employer contributions on behalf of members. Funds are selected from SuperRatings’ rated Platinum and gold funds, must be a public offer fund with more than $3 million in assets and have a minimum 5-year track record. Judging is based on an account balance of $50,000.
Rainmaker SelectingSuper Retirement Fund of the Year - Value Choice 2008 and 2009
This award covers retirement products in the value choice category for funds that offer limited investment choice and advisory support. According to SelectingSuper, the Fund achieved the award because of its pro-active programs in reaching members through tailored marketing, educational initiatives, call centre support, and in continually developing new products.
Rainmaker SelectingSuper Retirement Product of the Year 2007

Rainmaker’s presents this award to a fund that has already earned AAA SelectingSuper rating and offers retirement product(s) to the public.
Rainmaker SelectingSuper inaugural Fund of the Year Award 2006
2006 SelectingSuper Fund of the Year winner    
This award is provided to the fund that Rainmaker’s research identifies as the fund that is the most persistently good, innovative and influential.
SuperRatings Best New Product for the Personal Division 2006/2007
This award is provided to the fund that has either entered the superannuation market for the first time or released a new product division and is given to the fund that has made a marked impact on the market through either innovation, fund inflows or simply by providing significantly better services to members than comparable funds within the industry.

Five Apples is the rating for the highest quality funds. It means that the fund uses multi-manager investment options and merits well based on organisational strengths, investments, fees, administration, member services and employer services relative to industry best practice.

SelectingSuper AAA Quality Rating
AAA is the highest rating for an exceptional quality super fund. It means the fund rated exceptionally well on an overall assessment of organisational strength, administration, communications, investment performance, insurance, and extra services.

SuperRatings Platinum Rating
Platinum is the rating for the best value for money funds. It means that the fund is well balanced across all key assessment criteria – investment returns and methodology, fees, insurance, and administration and advice in a robust, secure and proven governance/risk framework. The fund provides features that should assist most individuals to meet their retirement goals.

In deciding whether to give a communication award, both the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) and the Conference of Major Superannuation Funds (CMSF) look at:

  • member feedback about the communication.
  • whether the communication achieved results. 
  • the layout and design of the communication.
