Question

Has First State Super received my Government co-contributions? Why are my Government co contributions not listed on my statement?

Answer

Federal Government’s co-contribution may not appear on member statements (if eligible) for a number of reasons. It is because the timing of the co-contribution payment depends on a number of factors. Here’s how the process works:

The co-contribution process

  1. Superannuation fund trustees are required to report contribution information to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) by 31 October following the end of the financial year.

  2. You must send your tax return for the same financial year to the ATO.

  3. The ATO will determine if you are eligible to receive a co-contribution payment and will calculate the amount.

  4. Co-contributions are sent directly to the superannuation fund where you made your contributions, unless you have nominated a fund to the ATO.

  5. The ATO will send you a letter after a co-contribution has been deposited into your super account.

  6. Members’ 31 December First State Super statements contain transactions up to and including 31 December. Perhaps First State Super received a co-contribution after this date.
