Question
Who is eligible for Ambulance Officers' Super insurance cover?Answer
The Ambulance Officers’ Super insurance cover is compulsory for all Officers who are eligible. You are eligible for this insurance cover if you are an Officer who:- joined the Ambulance Service of New South Wales as an Officer on or after 10 November 2006; or
- joined the Ambulance Service of New South Wales as an Officer before 10 November 2006 and you were a member of First State Super, or a member of the State Authorities Superannuation Scheme (SASS) without Additional Benefits cover, or were a member of another regulated fund; and you are not:
- a member of the State Superannuation Scheme (SSS), or
- a member of SASS who has Additional Benefits cover under SASS.
SASS members cannot hold Ambulance Officers’ insurance cover at the same time as the Additional Benefits cover offered through SASS. If you are a SASS member with Additional Benefits cover through SASS, or you obtain Additional Benefits cover through SASS in the future, you are not eligible for Ambulance Officers’ insurance cover and your Ambulance Officers’ Insurance cover will cease from the date you obtained the Additional Benefits cover.
Additionally, if you cease to be an Ambulance Officer, the Ambulance Officers’ Super insurance cover will no longer apply.
In addition to the new Ambulance Officers’ Super insurance cover, eligible Officers’ retain access to the benefits already available to then in their existing superannuation funds including First State Super and SASS.
