Question

Why do I need to provide proof of identity if I am already an existing First State Super member and want to open a First State Super income stream account?

Answer

When a member requests any payment or transfer of their benefit, including transfers to First State Super income stream accounts, a proof of identity test is required. This is to protect your benefit entitlements against fraud – we want to make sure the right person is providing us with payment instructions.

In addition, superannuation laws are very strict about the releasing of superannuation benefits as cash payments. As you will be taking your super as a cash income payment from your new income stream account, you need to meet certain conditions of release including reaching your preservation age. Proof of identity will confirm you have met a condition of release.

Members are required to provide certified copies of documents confirming their identity and important information like the date of birth and confirmation of your current address.
